I always wonder about these SV upgrade/conversions, as what was gained in not paying the import tax for a new car, in period, would have been lost on the car having the depreciated value of the chassis number/identity of the converted older car, so no point or gain to it back then. Obviously the older car would have a value so why not just part exchange it? What did they do with the P400 and P400S chassis, body parts and other bits as well?

cylinder head stamps and engine block stamps do not necessarily coincide in time. At that time, cylinder heads that had been stored for a long time were also used for later cars.

Back in the early 70s they hadn't yet considered that an earlier chassis number on an SV would depreciate it's value!

I'm sure the factory got creative with the old parts.

True, this much is all known, but in some instances the cylinder heads are after 1971 (say on a 1972 SV) and then we know it's an SV component for sure, if the engine was supplied in 1975 and claimed to be SV unit I'd want to see stampings post-1971, that's why I think it would be helpful to see them to help complete the story given that there is a lack of factory documentation here.

Did Gandini design the Miura' wheels as well as the body?

I believe he was responsible for all the final touches of the Miura's design including the wheels, this illustration was presented at the Turn event honoring Gandini's work recently, anyway it features the wheels as we know them

The Miura chassis appeared on the 1965 Turin Salon stand shod with Borrani wheels before Gandini was tasked with designing it's bodywork.

Then about a year later when the Miura's design was complete, the chassis appeared with Miura wheels.

Not that any of this is definitive, and then again I assume that Campagnolo was tasked with manufacturing the wheels only and were not involved in the design process.

    More questions than answers.

I realize this has been posted here before and I'd completely forgotten about it, but here is the original illustration of the Miura wheel design by Piero Stroppa, as shown in Bruno's 5th image being held by the man himself

I can't confirm this but apparently he was involved with the Miura Roadster project, note the subtle detail differences in this illustration versus the finished car

Will it have gold wheels and sills and who is doing the mechanicals?

    Yes, Gold wheels and sills!

We have not committed to any other outside contractors but the car will be certified by Lamborghini Polo Storico while in Italy and either use the authorized factory service department or Top Motors.

Miura #3102, the verde P400 restored years ago by Paul Hoey, now resides in South Dakota. The car is still in STELLAR condition, mechanically and cosmetically. It appears to need only very minor sorting, most of which I’ve already attended to. I am currently on the hunt for 4 correct P400 rims.

I have 4 restored P400 wheels that were sourced for this particular car.

Were you the fellow that bought them from Mark Murphy? I don’t know why he didn’t mate them to the car. Unfortunate for me. Care to sell them?

I may have spoken too soon. I'm a friend of Mark's and thought he still had the wheels. I'll see him later this morning and will check as he did want to sell them.

I’ll be crossing my fingers, then. Paul Hoey told me that he restored a set of wheels for this car for Mark, and that he never installed them. He thought Mark sold them, but perhaps not. Would be cool to get the very wheels that were once destined for this very Miura! Thank you.

Enjoy in good health, it does need the correct P400 wheels and the horn buttons in the center of the spinners should be removed if you care to make it just period correct, minor details, beautiful example.
