I don't think they are mutually exclusive concepts. A car can be totally neglected and in disrepair, but also be completely original down to the last bolt. The question, then, is whether the components are restorable. If they are-which in the case of both of these Miura S's, the answer is yes-then they are very good project candidates. I do tend to agree with you, however, if you meant that advertising them as essentially "survivor" cars that can be cleaned up and safely driven with minimal effort is outrageous, because as with both of these, that's certainly not the case, I agree. Both need substantial work to the point of full restoration and to advertise them otherwise is nonsense.

Just seems the fashion is, the rustier and more neglected and worn out the car is, the more original it is marketed as, and to many, perceived to be, which perpetuates these illogical premium prices, for what are actually unusable wrecks. The reality is, that when the "originality", or rather the rust/rot, neglect and wear is removed/replaced and remedied with new sections and parts, as they certainly have to be, there is little or no originality left, and was never present to start with.

A Speaking of original, a few years ago this very original P400 surfaced at a Cars & Coffee, it was a a sort of dark red (Rosso Granada?) said to be very original throughout, anyone knows which chassis number it is?

Said to be the Turin Salon, and I am thinking this is 1966 with one of the prototypes with paint under the rear hood

The story of the Italian Job Miura P400 3586 is featured in the December, 2019 edition of Classic & Sports Car. How it came to be bought by the current owner, authenticated as the Italian Job Miura by Polo Storico and restored is documented.

The only thing I wonder about, why did he wait so long to get one...

    I always wondered about that.

    Exactly!

I think his acquisition has helped refocus attention in the Miura, not that it needs it.

I don't compute how many times I met & interviewed Giampaolo Dallara last 10 years, but one thing is for sure about your question...

back in 2011 he told me he was able to buy one since end of '90s... he asked to so many dealers, brokers authorities marque specialists, etc over the years to find

him a specific Miura P400... he spent time and money to find the right one... without success !

Then he challenged me for #3165... after that some of you already know the Happy End... and for the others....

thanks to Lars-Erik who commissionned me one day to sell one of his Miura, it appears this was the right one Giampaolo Dallara was waiting for so many years...

    the loop was done !
