    Fault or feature?

I replaced the battery recently, and so far so good, although the voltage rarely reads above about 13 volts which to me seems low for charging. Alternator light does come on prior to startup, and goes out once started although I suspect my charging circuit might not be optimal.

But if I turn the lights on (either running/side lights, or headlights) the voltage drops to about 11 on the gauge, and will not visibly recover even if the lights are shut off - voltage continues to indicate below 12 volts. When I eventually shut the car off, it easily has the battery power to start up again.

So - do I have a fault somewhere (faulty gauge or wiring) or is this "welcome to Italian electrical systems"?

Thanks Joe. I'm mostly worried that if I continue driving with the lights on it will eventually grind to a halt on the side of the road.

Known issue, you have to add additional ground wires in the gauge cluster, I did this on GLA12997 ten years ago.

Thanks Raymond - I figured it could be an undocumented feature! Do you have an article where you did this so I could follow?

I'm guessing this could also be why I thought my dash lights weren't working, only to realize they were, they were just so dim I couldn't notice them.

Dash lights is another topic, you can additionally bridge the reostat so that the bulbs get the full current. but most important, add a separate ground wire to the voltage gauge.

Amazing image of 1986 or 1987 triple white Downdraft cruising in Cannes with Geneva trade plates circa 1989, also by Jens Lucking.

I have just realized that this triple white Downdraft captured in 1988 by Jens Lucking with the Sant Agata-trained Donato Passarotto (what a name for a Countach driver!) backing it up is the same 88.5 Downdraft owned by ILOC (International Lamborghini Owners Club) member registered in Lüneburg, Germany I posted a few days ago.

Joe, Plates with Z at the end are pure export plates like the EE in Italy, trade plates is not a suitable term. We have U-Plates which are dealer/garage plates.

Very interesting, because this car does not have Swiss-spec lights, thanks for the clarification.

So, this QV came like this from the factory? These aren’t aftermarket modifications?
